What started as a hobby — a way to pass the time — turned into a passion. I'd like to share that emotional experience with you.

02The Artist
Portrait of Nicholas Sedita in his studio
Nicholas SeditaUpstate, NY

From the page to the canvas.

I'm an abstract expressionist painter who dabbles freely in other forms. My work lives mostly on canvas, wood, and cloth — and, increasingly, behind the lens of a camera.

I live in the mountains of upstate New York. A former literature and history teacher at the college level, I was trained to read art critically, while my work in history demanded a great deal of imagination. Together — creativity and imagination — drive the paintings you see here.

Tired of teaching, I quit my job and began painting. What started as a hobby turned into a passion. I'd like to share that passion with collectors, curators, and anyone willing to look a little longer than usual.

03Commissions

Make something together.

I take a small number of private commissions each year — paintings made specifically for a wall, a memory, or a moment.

01

Conversation

We talk about scale, palette, the room, the feeling — and what the piece is for.

02

Studies

I send a small set of directional studies. You respond honestly. We narrow the field.

03

The Work

I paint. You get progress glimpses. The final piece ships ready to live with.
